Visiting Speaker Funds

Visiting speaker funds are available to assist SOM academic areas with bringing in outside speakers who will enrich the school's scholarship, culture, and learning. Any faculty interested in bringing in a speaker may submit a request to their area chair for consideration.

Presidential Diversity Research Grant

The Presidential Diversity Research Grant provides support to assistant professors, who are members of historically underrepresented groups, as they pursue research and scholarship opportunities. The funding is aimed at helping faculty engage in research activities necessary for tenure and promotions. Grants of $5,000 to $8,000 will be awarded annually to successful applicants (awarded funds are available after July 1, 2023).

Interdisciplinary Collaboration Grants Program

The Division of Research Interdisciplinary Collaboration Grants (ICG) Program is intended for investigators who seek to enhance their research opportunities through collaboration across ÂÌñÉç. This may include projects that represent a new research agenda. Proposals from all areas of scholarship are encouraged.

The Dr. Nuala McGann Drescher Affirmative Action/Diversity Leave Program

The enhances employment opportunities for people who are preparing for permanent or continuing appointments, with preference given to minorities, women, employees with disabilities, or employees with military status. The types of support available include: payment of employee's regular salary by the campus; salary for a replacement; and other related expenses for research or study with a justification.

Grants for Employees with Disabilities Program

The provides funding for employees with disabilities, as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), to assist them in achieving their professional potential. The funds cover out-of-pocket expenses incurred for professional work-related projects or activities where assistance is not provided by the ADA. The maximum individual award is $5,000 for each application.

InfoEd SPIN Search Engine

The InfoEd SPIN platform allows users at ÂÌñÉç to search for funding program announcements using their own terms (Basic/Advanced Search) or through pre-defined keywords (Keyword Search). Researchers at ÂÌñÉç can also register for a profile on the site, which allows them to create email alerts for new funding opportunities based on specific search terms.

To create a profile:

  • From the landing page, click on "Sign In" in the upper-right corner
  • Click on "Need to Create a New Profile?"
  • Enter your information
  • Click "Save"
  • You will receive an email notification once the campus SPIN administrator has added you (typically, within 1-2 business days)

National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity

Personal Support

Support for Faculty Parents and Caregivers

The School of Management is committed to assisting faculty parents and caregivers who face unique challenges while pursuing their teaching and research career.

To assist faculty with balancing professional and personal responsibilities, the campus offers a program allowing tenure-track faculty to request an adjustment of work responsibilities during the semester of a birth or adoption, or during the semester following a birth or adoption (Parental Leave General Guidelines can be found here).

The decision regarding the semester in which the adjustment will take place will be based on a discussion between the faculty member and the dean, in consultation with the department chair. The decision should take into account the needs of the faculty member, the department, and the college. During this adjustment period, the faculty member may have their professional obligation allocated exclusively to research and service.

Upon the faculty member’s request, the tenure clock will be stopped for up to one year following the birth or adoption of a child or foster placement. This form should be submitted to the dean’s office, which will forward it to HR for processing.

ÂÌñÉç also participates in the, which provides eligible employees with paid time off to bond with a newly born, adopted, or fostered child, to care for a family member with a serious health condition, or to assist loved ones when a spouse, domestic partner, child or parent is deployed abroad on active military service.

Employee Assistance Program

The ÂÌñÉç Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is an assessment, referral and consultation service available to University faculty, staff, graduate student employees, retirees and their dependents. When personal or work-related problems become difficult to manage, the EAP can help. EAP staff provide confidential, professional, work-site based guidance at no cost. EAP offers supervisory consultations as well as individualized assessment and referral to appropriate community and professional resources. In addition, special programs and lunchtime workshops are coordinated by EAP throughout the year.

Through education and collaboration, the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) aims to foster a broad and inclusive campus culture. ÂÌñÉç Women

ÂÌñÉç Women (BUW) is a social organization bringing together women from across the University – staff, faculty, retirees and spouses/partners – for fellowship and service. Its members support the entire life cycle of University women through programs that build community and raise funds for scholarships and awards for women students.

Awards for School of Management Faculty

The School of Management annually recognizes the research and teaching excellence of it's faculty.

Faculty Teaching Honor Roll

Faculty are eligible for the Teaching Honor Roll if they receive a 3.5 or higher (out of 4.0) for Question 9 (overall rating of instructor) or Question 10 (overall rating of the course), and 50% or more students in the applicable course complete the Student Opinion of Teaching (SOOT) survey.

Excellence in Teaching Award (Adjunct and Tenure/Tenure-Track)

Faculty recipients are selected by the SOM Awards Committee in the Fall semester and announced in the Spring semester. In order to be eligible, faculty must be on the SOM Honor Roll for both semesters of the academic year prior. Student Opinion of Teaching (SOOT) survey are also considered as part of the recipient selection process.

Excellence in Research Award

Faculty recipients are selected by the SOM Awards Committee in the Fall semester and announced in the Spring semester. Faculty are considered for the award based on the number and quality of research publications in the previous academic year.

Excellence award recipients are not eligible again (for the same award) for five years from date of receipt of the last award.
