Application Instructions

  1. Apply online

    There are several ways to apply; please submit one application:

    The Common Application allows you to apply to over 500 participating schools with one application.

    The SUNY Application allows you to apply to multiple SUNY schools with one application.

    The Coalition Application allows you to apply to over 90 schools with the assistance of an online toolkit.

    Note: The application fee is $50 USD. International students are not eligible for fee waivers. 

  2. Review admission prerequisites by school

    • College of Community and Public Affairs 

      Human Development 

      • Most previous successful applicants had a GPA of 3.0 or higher
      • General education curriculum is preferred
      • Psychology and sociology recommended

      Social Work, BSW

      • GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred
      • Prerequisite courses: general psychology, intro to sociology, intro to statistics, introductory biology, intro to social work practice
      • Additional application materials include: résumé, personal statement and an interview

    • Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences
      • Beginning in fall 2024, Decker College will admit students only as incoming juniors (all prerequisites must be completed).
      • Minimum GPA of 3.0 and prerequisite GPA of 3.0
      • Prerequisite courses: Two composition classes, statistics, introductory biology (waived if already taken microbiology and anatomy and physiology), anatomy and physiology I and II, microbiology, chemistry I and II, introductory psychology and developmental psychology.
      • Students with international transcripts must first have a course-to-course and degree evaluation from or . A WES or ECE evaluation provides ÂÌñÉç with consistent information regarding degrees, courses and grades in U.S. equivalencies; this ensures students receive a timely and accurate application review.

    • Harpur College of Arts and Sciences
    • School of Management
      • GPA 3.5 or higher is preferred
      • Prerequisite courses include microeconomics, macroeconomics, statistics and calculus
      • Prerequisite courses: Microeconomics, macroeconomics and statistics or calculus completed with a B or higher by the time of application

    • Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science

      Engineering

      • Mechanical and electrical engineering: GPA of 3.2 or higher preferred
      • All other engineering majors: GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred
      • Prerequisites vary by specific major, but commonly include: calculus (I and II), differential equations, two semesters of calculus-based physics, chemistry (I and II), two courses in English composition or technical writing, two college courses in humanities/social science, introductory programming course (see more details by major).

      Computer science
      GPA of 3.2 or higher is recommended. Prerequisite courses: calculus I and II, programming, composition and a physical science course.

  3. Check Your Email and Activate Your Password

    Beginning in October, after we receive your application, we'll email you a Reference Number and User ID. Once you receive these, activate your account by setting your password. You must do this before you can successfully complete the rest of your application.

    Add admit@binghamton.edu to your email contact list to ensure you receive our emails. Don't forget to check your spam folder.

  4. Submit Your Transcripts

    Only official transcripts are accepted. If the transcripts are not in English, send the original transcript with the English translations. In order for transcripts to be considered official, they must be sent directly to ÂÌñÉç by a school officer:

    • By email to international@binghamton.edu (Note: must be sent from a school email domain); or
    • By mail to ÂÌñÉç, Office of Undergraduate Admissions, P.O. BOX 6001, ÂÌñÉç, NY 13902-6001
  5. College transcripts: Official transcripts are required for each school attended and must list all courses and grades obtained.

    Secondary/high school transcript:

    • At the time of application, if you've earned more than 24 college credits after high school graduation you are not required to submit a final high school transcript as part of the admissions application. However, once enrolled, you MUST submit a final transcript or GED certificate. Failure to submit a final transcript will prevent you from registering for courses in future semesters.
    • If you've earned fewer than 24 college credits after high school graduation at the time of application, your final, official high school transcript is required. You should request your official transcript from your high school to be submitted electronically or by mail to ÂÌñÉç's Office of Undergraduate Admissions (address above). You will also have the option to provide ACT/SAT scores.  If you wish to submit scores, have scores sent electronically from the testing service.
  6. English Proficiency

    If English is not your native language, you'll be asked to demonstrate English proficiency. Submit:

    • two complete English (non-ESL) courses at a U.S. college/university with grades of B or better; or 

    • One official test score that demonstrates proficiency. All test scores must be less than two years old. ÂÌñÉç accepts the following tests for demonstrating English proficiency: TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo, SAT, ACT, Cambridge English (B2 First, C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency)

    ÂÌñÉç requires all students to complete an English placement exam during Orientation. This is a diagnostic exam testing students in listening, reading and writing. If results of this examination indicate the student would benefit from additional English language support, the student will be placed on an ELI (English Language Institute) Track. ELI courses can be taken along with other university courses and don't require any additional cost.

  7. Submit Financial Support Documents

    International students planning to attend with an F-1 or J-1 visa will be required to submit proof of financial support. An I-20 or DS-2019 form will not be issued until a verification of funds to cover the first year of study has been received. Students should submit the following to meet this requirement:

    • International Student Financial Statement containing the signature of any relevant sponsors.
    • Official bank statement(s) verifying adequate available funds to cover student expenses; submit English translation if necessary

    The Office of International Student and Scholar Services will issue the I-20 or DS-2019 form once a student has been admitted and has submitted financial support documents

*Applications received after priority deadline will be reviewed on a space-available basis.

**Programs in the Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science and the Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences only accept fall applications.

The deadline to apply for the Baccalaureate Accelerated Track (BAT) in Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences (fall admission only) is Nov. 15, and all required application materials are due by Dec. 1.

Students will be notified of admission decisions via email.
