Watson College is committed to supporting and celebrating the research of our graduate students.
Watson GROWS (Graduate Research Outcomes Workshop Series) is an initiative showcasing the outstanding work of our graduate researchers through a series of workshops and events. The Dean's Office will award prizes for the top-ranked contributions.
Schedule for 2025
- March 21: Fourth Annual Biomedical Engineering Research Exposition (for biomedical engineering graduate students)
- April 4: Mechanical Engineering Graduate Student Research Symposium (for mechanical engineering graduate students)
- April 9-11: (mainly for systems science and industrial engineering graduate students)
- April 29: Watson GROWS Poster/Oral/Demo Competition (open for all Watson graduate students - see details below)
Watson GROWS Poster/Oral/Demo Competition
Watson College master's and PhD students are invited to submit abstracts for poster/oral/demo presentations on their research for an event from 10 a.m.鈥 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, in the ITC Rotunda.
- Deadline for submission: Tuesday, March 4
- Decision announcement: Tuesday, March 25
, then email your abstract.
IMPORTANT: Review your abstract/demo submission with your PI/faculty advisor before you submit. PIs/faculty advisors must notify Watson GROWS that they have reviewed and permitted the student to submit.
Guidelines for abstracts and demo summaries
- PDF submission name: Department_Lastname_Firstname.pdf
- Title, full list of authors and affiliations (underline the name of the presenter)
Department/school association - Include explicit sections: introduction, methodology, results and discussion, acknowledgments and references
- Format: 11pt. Times New Roman font, 1鈥 margins and single-spaced
- Minimum 8pt. font for figure/table/captions
- 1 page limit, including abstract text, figures/tables and references
- 1 PowerPoint slide teaser summarizing the abstract (in 3 bullet points) that the organizers will display at the event
- Abstracts will be evaluated based on rubrics/standards of research in respective fields (departments/schools)
Instructions for student presenters
- Poster presenters: Posters should measure 36鈥 (W) x 48鈥 (L) (91 x 122 cm)
- Demo presenters: Each demo will be assigned one table 鈥 contact for more resources
- Oral presenters: 10-minute talk followed by a 5-minute Q&A
Presenter Awards
Faculty will judge posters, demos and talks. The Dean's Office will award prizes for the top-ranked contributions in the poster and demo sessions
