Crash Course in Communications Planning, Brand Building, and Search Engine Optimization

Have you thought about interning in media or marketing? Do you conduct marketing tasks in your job but don't have any formal training?
No experience is required to join this crash course in communications planning, brand building, and search engine optimization hosted by, Director of Media & Public Relations at ñ. Participants will learn and apply the essential concepts and methods behind successful digital communications, including how to:
- Create and manage a social media presence for an organization or institution.
- Utilize FB/IG ads, analytics, and targeting to help a brand stand out.
- Develop engaging multimedia content that speaks to a targeted audience.
- Learn the basics of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and apply via web edits during the session.
- Consider the representation of diverse populations in media and how it impacts the communications plan and SEO
- Work with media (TV, publication, radio, etc) to reach the broader public.

Participants will have the opportunity to analyze the communications efforts of a real-world business and design a communications plan for that business. The feedback is given to the local businesses for their implementation in marketing efforts.
Registration for the Fall 2024 competition is now open and will close Sunday, September 22nd at 11:59pm. You may choose to sign up either as an individual, an incomplete team, or a full team of 3-5 students. Each team member must register.

Bio: Peruvemba Satish is co-chief investment officer - disciplined equity, senior vice president, portfolio manager and co-head of global analytics for American Century Investments®.
Mr. Satish oversees the firm's comprehensive risk management program, which includes analytics designed to evaluate risk at the security, portfolio and enterprise level. He also works with the company's investment management and product development teams on engineering new investment strategies consistent with clients' needs and American Century Investments' quality standards.
Mr. Satish joined American Century Investments from Allstate Corporation, where he served as a senior managing director and portfolio manager for the performance-based strategies group. Previously, he was chief risk officer for Jamison Capital Partners LP, New York. Earlier, he was the chief risk officer and a member of the investment committee at DKR Capital Partners LP, an asset management firm specializing in alternative investment strategies. He also was director of risk management at Soros Fund Management LLC.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Satish held quantitative research, risk management and investment management positions at State Street Bank and Trust and Barclays Capital. He received a Ph.D. in finance from the University of Texas at Austin, a master's in economics from the State University of New York, and undergraduate and graduate degrees in engineering and economics from Birla Institute of Science in Pilani, India. He is a CFA® charterholder.

Bio: Jeff Schwarcz is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal's Transaction Tax Advisory practice in New York. He specializes in restructuring, transactional and general corporate tax matters.
With more than 18 years of experience, Mr. Schwarcz brings expertise in providing strategic counsel on domestic and international private equity and corporate tax matters including acquisitions, dispositions, in and out of court restructurings, inbound and outbound transactions. He also advises financial and strategic buyers and sellers on the tax aspects of mergers and acquisitions in the areas of re-organizations, dispositions, leveraged buy-outs and recapitalizations. Mr. Schwarcz has served clients across various industries including banking and financial services, energy and infrastructure, entertainment, manufacturing, retail, technology, and wholesale and distribution.
Mr. Schwarcz earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from ñ and a J.D. from Hofstra University School of Law. He is admitted to practice law in New Jersey and New York and also holds a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license in New York. Mr. Schwarcz was also the Vice-President of the New York Chapter of the American Association of Attorney-CPAs (AAA-CPA).

Bio: Joined Spire Capital as a Principal at the time of its formation in 2000. At Spire, Sean focuses on sourcing and leading transactions, developing industry and executive relationships, as well as investor relations. Sean spends significant time in the business services, information services, software and media sectors.He received a Bachelor of Science degree from ñ and a Master of Business Administration degree from New York University. Sean also received his Chartered Financial Analyst (“CFA”) designation in 1996.
