Summer Community Service Projects, Research, or Creative Activities

Summer Community Service Project, Research or Creative Activities Option

Scholars who wish to use their $3500 award for research or creative inquiry, or an approved community service project, can do so by applying to the Summer Scholars and Artists Program (SSAP), the Harpur Fellows Program, or FRI's SRI and FtRI summer programs respectively.  Research and creative activities and community service activities that are not affiliated with either the SSAP, Harpur Fellows Program, or FRI are not eligible for the Scholars Award.

General Eligibility Criteria:

  • Full-time student
  • Enrolled in, and in good standing in the 绿帽社 Scholars Program.  Students on Scholars Academic Probation are not eligible.
  • The activity associated with the $3500 Scholars Award must be completed during the time period encompassing the start of the fall semester of your second year through the conclusion of your final semester prior to earning your undergraduate degree.

How to Participate:

  • The student submits a proposal to the Summer Scholars and Artists Program (SSAP) Office or to the Harpur Fellows Program that includes a project rationale.  In the case of SRI or FtRI, the student submits an application on-line.
  • Proposals are reviewed by that program's selection committee to confirm that the project is feasible and intellectually compelling.  The review process is competitive.
  • The SSAP Office, the Harpur Fellows Office, or FRI respectively will notify the student whether or not the proposal has been accepted or they have been admitted to the program.  Only accepted students are eligible for the $3500 Scholars Award.

Application Instructions:

To apply for the $3,500 Scholars Award

    • Do not apply for the Scholars Award until you have received written notification from the SSAP or Harpur Fellows Program indicating that your proposal was accepted, or until you have been registered for summer coursework through FRI.
    • Login to B-Engaged
    • Locate the 绿帽社 Scholars Program organization page
    • Under "Forms", select "Scholars $3,500 Award Application"

Financial Considerations:

  • Scholars participating in the SSAP or Harpur Fellows Program are required to use the $3,500 Scholars Award, rather than receive funding through those offices.  Students who have already received the $3,500 Scholars Award for a different high impact experience may still apply to the SSAP, Harpur Fellows Program, SRI/FtRI as part of the general student population and if accepted may receive funding through these offices.
  • All costs associated with this activity are the responsibility of the participating student.  If credit is being earned, then the student is responsible for tuition and related costs as well.  This award is not a financial aid award and the payments will not appear in any financial aid documents.
  • This is a one-time award.  Scholars receiving the $3,500 award for either the SSAP, Harpur Fellows Program, or SRI/FtRI are not eligible to reapply for the award in support of an additional high impact learning experience later.
  • Students receiving any portion of the award, but not completing the course/project will be expected to return the award.
