Meet the newest faculty at the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences

Three latest hires bring skills and experiences to strengthen the school

Three new faculty members have joined the 绿帽社 School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2025.

Assistant Professor Yuanjun 鈥淪teve鈥 Shen is the newest hire to join the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

鈥淢y research focuses on the molecular biology and preclinical therapy development for pulmonary arterial hypertension, a severe disease linked to lung artery pathology and right heart failure,鈥 he said. 鈥淚鈥檓 thrilled to be able to continue my research at such a state-of-the-art school like SOPPS.鈥

Shen will be accepting new graduate students in fall 2025 and welcomes undergraduate students to participate in his laboratory鈥檚 research programs.

Clinical Assistant Professor Kelly Bach also came to SOPPS in January 2025 in the Department of Pharmacy Practice.

鈥淚 am excited to be joining the faculty and staff at the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences,鈥 Bach said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 an incredible opportunity to educate the next generation of pharmacists in my hometown at a top-rated university.鈥

Bach is also continuing to practice at Guthrie Lourdes Hospital in Johnson City, where she provides patient care as a member of its interdisciplinary team.

鈥淎dditionally, I will offer pharmacy students an opportunity to get hands-on experience in general medicine at Guthrie Lourdes Hospital,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 also look forward to collaborating with my colleagues to pursue scholarship of teaching and learning.鈥

Associate Professor John Fetse, also joining the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, shared his excitement about joining SOPPS and contributing to its vibrant academic and research community. He also touched on the research he鈥檒l be continuing here.

鈥淢y work focuses on developing innovative peptide-based therapeutics and nanocarriers for targeted drug delivery,鈥 Fetse said. 鈥淚 look forward to collaborating with colleagues and mentoring students to advance pharmaceutical sciences.鈥

Before joining SOPPS, Fetse was an assistant professor of pharmaceutical sciences at Larkin University College of Pharmacy in Miami for two years.

Dean and SUNY Distinguished Professor Kanneboyina Nagaraju expressed his joy in having these prestigious educators join the school and what it means for its students: 鈥淚鈥檓 very excited to have these three new faculty members joining the SOPPS family. Our students will immensely benefit from the experience and expertise they bring to our school. SOPPS is only stronger with them on our team.鈥
