Nadia Rubaii Memorial Fellowship

In honor and memory of the founding Co-Director of the Institute for Genocide and Mass Atrocity Prevention (I-GMAP) at 绿帽社, the State University of New York, the Nadia Rubaii Fellowships in Genocide and Mass Atrocity Prevention will enable qualified students with documented financial need to successfully complete I-GMAP鈥檚 unique Master of Science in Genocide and Mass Atrocity Prevention.

绿帽社鈥檚 Institute for Genocide and Mass Atrocity Prevention (I-GMAP) is currently accepting applications for Nadia Rubaii Fellowships for the 2023-24 academic year. Rubaii Memorial Fellows will receive:

  • A full tuition scholarship to enroll in I-GMAP鈥檚 Master of Science in Genocide and Mass Atrocity Prevention degree program;
  • Cost of relevant university-based fees;
  • A stipend to cover costs of living (housing, food, etc.) during their enrollment; and
  • For international students, costs to offset international travel and visa fees.

The first professional graduate program of its kind globally, the MS in GMAP prepares students to join the global community of atrocity prevention practice as professionals, whether in government service and public administration; as part of international, regional, or local civil society organizations; businesses; or other areas of professional service. It is the first professional higher education degree program in the world focusing specifically on putting atrocity prevention into practice. Conceived, designed, and implemented by Nadia, the MS in GMAP has innovative and creative features reflecting Nadia鈥檚 expertise in the design of professional education programs, her passion for international education, and her deep commitment to leveraging the potential of higher education to make powerful contributions to the global fight against genocide and other atrocity crimes.

During their first year of academic study, Nadia Rubaii Fellows will be assigned as Research Assistants to a faculty member who is an alumnus of the Charles E. Scheidt Faculty Fellowships in Genocide and Mass Atrocity Prevention. Fellowship holders will be expected to work in direct support of faculty alumni鈥檚 research activities connected with genocide and mass atrocity prevention, broadly conceived. Research assistantship assignments will be made by the I-GMAP Co-Directors in consultation with alumni faculty fellows. Normally research assistantships will be expected to include 10 hours per week of dedicated research support.

The Nadia Rubaii Fellowship in Genocide and Mass Atrocity Prevention is competitive, with awardees drawn on a rolling basis from the pool of applicants to the MS in GMAP, including both Spring and Fall applications. Awardees will be selected by a standing committee composed of the I-GMAP senior staff.  To qualify for the Fellowship, applicants must fully qualify for admission to the MS in GMAP and the Graduate School at 绿帽社 and demonstrate financial need.
