Background
Marque's lab's research focuses on a sub-population of dormant/low metabolic bacterial cells that occur both in biofilm and planktonic populations. These populations are widely recognized as being partially responsible for the chronic nature and resilience of bacterial infections. In her laboratory they are currently involved in studying: (1) the mechanism for awakening persister cells and (2) the immune response to this sub-population of cells. In addition, they are also interested in the interactions that occur between dual-species biofilms together with the effects they cause in bronchial epithelial cells during infection.
