ÂÌñÉç takes seriously its responsibility to have a positive impact on the community it calls home. The Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) is the driving force in facilitating dynamic, mutually beneficial relationships and collaborations between the University and local organizations, with an emphasis on empowering students, faculty and the community to work collaboratively for the benefit of all.

Ways your gift can support students

Excellence in Community-engaged Learning

The CCE works with faculty representing every school on campus to develop credit-bearing community-engaged learning courses that allow students to apply their classroom learning while working with community organizations to address community-identified priorities.

Participation in community-engaged learning leads to improved student learning, retention and success, particularly for first-generation and other historically under-served students. These courses require more time and resources from faculty than typical courses, so the CCE supports faculty in development and implementation.

Community Engagement Student Support

With only about one-third of students having a personal vehicle on campus, lack of transportation resources is a barrier to students participating in community-based experiences. The CCE organizes transportation for students to schools and other community partners and provides travel reimbursement for students placed in rural communities, allowing greater equity in access for student participants and community partners.

Voter Engagement Champions

The Center for Civic Engagement coordinates a nationally recognized nonpartisan student voting program that has resulted in steady gains in student registration and turnout rates. Funding for the Voter Engagement Champions Fund will strengthen our work to encourage all students to participate in the democratic process, with a special emphasis on reaching student audiences with historically low registration and turnout rates.

Stipends for Student Voter Engagement Champions, who will provide voter registration, get out the vote and voter education efforts during the fall semester of midterm and presidential election years. Target populations may include colleges/schools, residential communities, students of color, fraternities and sororities, athletes and others.

Civic Engagement Award

This award, offered through the ÂÌñÉç Student Awards, recognizes an individual undergraduate student who has demonstrated excellence in their civic engagement work. The award will recognize a range of civic activities, including voter engagement, advocacy, campus or community activism, and more.
